Case Study: Waverly Road, St Albans

The Overview.

Stuart and his family saw an opportunity to transform an old bungalow into their dream home. Struggling to find a house that fit their needs, they decided to build something fresh and create a bespoke home tailored to their lifestyle. The Challenges & Solutions

The Waverly Road project involved reimagining a tired existing property into a contemporary, high-quality home while navigating both planning and technical design constraints. A key challenge was achieving a cohesive and modernised form that worked within the site’s suburban context and respected local character, without resorting to a generic or compromised design. To address this, we engaged early with planning consultants and the local authority to shape a design that met policy expectations and secured consent. On the technical side, integrating modern lines and large glazed elements required careful structural coordination and specialist detailing, ensuring performance, durability, and buildability were upheld. By maintaining alignment between design intent, engineering requirements, and construction sequencing, we were able to deliver a revitalised home that elevates both its aesthetic and functional quality while meeting regulatory and client expectations.
